Also old news, but soon after the move to Australia, I joined with a mining consulting and software company called Runge.

Runge has developed many of the industry standard mining software products and have funded a new project called Mining Dynamics (MD) which is quickly proving to have great potential. The project has until now been referred to largely as Runge’s test tube project, but with contracts shaping up in Australia, South Africa, and Canada, MD is quickly making the transition from garage band to rock band in a very short period of time.

I’m working as a Systems Analyst for MD, in an effort to bridge the gap between the business and the technology. I liaison between the Business Analysts and the Developers, translating business requirements into functional requirements, as well as developing prototypes, proof of concepts and high level designs. I miss Development like you wouldn’t believe, but I am also enjoying the new challenges and rewards associated with my new role. The new role also requires a 50% client-facing commitment so has the added benefit of some travel.

I’m really excited to be working in such an entrepreneurial environment with some really bright people. The product is quite amazing with an extremely powerful object-oriented spatial database at the core and equally powerful work flow and 3D visualization platforms sitting on top. MD is an enterprise solution, so it integrates nicely with various expert mining solutions as well as other enterprise systems like SAP.
